What is the process for a child to be considered for surgery through Humanity Direct?

For a child to be considered for surgery through Humanity Direct, the process is straightforward yet thorough, ensuring that each child receives the medical care they need. Our healthcare coordinators either hold outreach clinics or will hear of a cases through the local communities.

Our healthcare coordinators visit areas where children don’t have access to medical care. Our Healthcare Coordinator Dickson has been with us since the beginning and he oversees organising clinics or referrals.

Once a potential case is identified, Dickson speaks to the child’s parents or carers to help assess the child’s condition. Once it’s agreed that the child needs to be seen by a doctor Dickson arranges an appointment,  including transporting the patient with their parent or carer, for a consultation.

During this consultation, surgeons and medical professionals review the child’s medical history, conduct any necessary diagnostic tests, and confirm the surgical requirements. Humanity Direct covers these preliminary costs, ensuring that families face no financial barriers at any stage.

Once approved, the surgery is scheduled, and Humanity Direct arranges transportation and any hospital stay that might be needed. The organisation coordinates all aspects of the procedure, from pre-operative care to post-surgical follow-ups. Throughout the entire process, Humanity Direct remains in close contact with the family, providing updates and addressing any concerns. This holistic approach ensures that children receive the medical intervention they need while their families feel supported and informed.
