Hydrocephalus surgery in children

Hydrocephalus is a build-up of fluid on the brain, causing swelling and putting pressure on the brain, which can lead to brain damage. If left untreated, hydrocephalus can be fatal.

Many of our hydrocephalus surgery in children cases involve patients with severely swollen heads, affecting their sight, speech, and movements. Surgery is the only effective treatment, and when performed early, it can limit damage and greatly improve the chances of recovering mobility, as well as reversing any impact on sight and speech.

We work with neurosurgeon Dr Ssenyonjo, one of just twelve neurosurgeons working in Uganda and one of the few that specialise in paediatric neurosurgery.

Many children who undergo hydrocephalus surgery early go on to lead healthy lives, highlighting the importance of timely intervention. Donate today and help make that happen.
