How does Humanity Direct support patients and their families during the recovery process?

Humanity Direct places significant emphasis on supporting both patients and their families throughout the recovery after their surgery.

None of our patients are discharged from hospital until the surgeons are happy that they’ve made a strong enough recovery to recuperate at home.

Once our patients have been discharged from hospital they often require follow-up visits to ensure a full recovery. Humanity Direct’s healthcare coordinators are there to provide that post-operative care, including wound care and checking that medication such as painkillers are being administered correctly.

For families, Humanity Direct provides logistical and emotional support. HD recognises that recovery can be challenging, especially for families who may be far from medical facilities and lack access to necessary resources. Humanity Direct helps arrange transportation for follow-up visits, easing the burden of travel for those living in remote areas. This not only ensures continuity of care but also allows parents to focus on supporting their child’s healing without the added stress of arranging logistics.

Emotional support is also integral to the recovery process. Humanity Direct’s team maintains regular communication with families, providing reassurance and answering questions about the child’s progress and offer guidance on home care practices, such as dressing wounds or managing pain.
