What are your most performed surgeries?

Many of the conditions we treat are entirely curable with surgery, yet without financial support, families can’t afford these procedures.

Here are the most performed surgeries we fund and how they change children’s lives.

1. Tumour Removal

Children in low-income communities often develop benign or cancerous tumours that need to be removed urgently. Without intervention, these growths can become painful, lead to serious health complications or even threaten a child’s life. Early tumour removal can prevent long-term effects and give a child a brighter future, these are potentially our most performed surgeries.

2. Hernia Repair

Hernias are one of the most common conditions we treat at Humanity Direct. Inguinal and umbilical hernias are common in children and if left untreated can cause a lot of pain and even life threatening complications. A simple surgical procedure prevents serious health risks and lets children grow up healthy.

3. Adenoid Surgery

Another one of our most performed surgeries is something called an ‘adenoidectomy’. Enlarged adenoids can cause breathing difficulties, sleep apnoea and chronic infections in children. Adenoidectomy (adenoid removal surgery) can make a huge difference to a child’s life, helping them breathe properly, sleep better and not get sick all the time.

4. Skin Grafts for Severe Burns

Children who have severe burns develop contractures where scar tissue tightens and restricts movement. Skin graft surgery helps repair damaged skin and restore function and prevent permanent disability. This is a critical procedure for children who have had major burns and need reconstructive surgery to get back on their feet and confident again, sadly this again is amongst our most performed surgeries.

5. Burn Contracture Release

In addition to skin grafts, some children with severe burns need contracture release surgery to get movement back in affected limbs. Without treatment burns can lead to long term disability but surgery can restore function and independence.

Your Donations Fund These Surgeries

These operations cost much less than they would in high income countries but completely change a child’s life. By donating or fundraising you help provide vital medical care to children who need it most. to see more about how we work, see here.
