How do you manage demand for operations?

Uganda has just 8 paediatric surgeons, 12 neurosurgeons and 28 orthopaedic surgeons available to a population of 21 million children. Most surgeons work for hospitals in the main city of Kampala with very few, if any, working in rural areas.

Our healthcare coordinators work closely with the surgeons and local communities so we can balance surgical needs with surgical capacity.

Our healthcare team hold routine outreach clinics to identify children where surgery is their only option. Then, alongside our surgeons, our team will organise consultations and schedule their operations.

1.75 billion children lack access to surgical care

By working together we can ensure that any patient we commit to helping get the medical care they need without stretching our surgeons capacity.
