Plastic surgery for burn injuries in children

Many Ugandan children help with cooking, keep warm, or playing near open fires, and unfortunately, accidents can happen. As a result, we see numerous children needing plastic surgery to treat burns.

Unable to reach medical care children who sustain burns often have their wound wrapped in a bandage and left to heal. Not only does this risk infection but it risks fingers fusing together or hands and arms becoming fixed in awkward positions know as contractures.

Simple And Effective

Plastic surgery such as skin grafts helps release these contractures, allowing children to regain movement. This is vital, as without surgery, many children risk dropping out of school simply because they can no longer hold a pen and write, which impacts their long term prospects as well as their family.

Supporting our surgeries enables a ripple of positivity through Ugandan families and communities. Donate here today.
