How do we keep supply costs down?
Humanity Direct works hard to keep supply costs low while ensuring children receive the best possible medical care. By reducing unnecessary expenses and using efficient sourcing strategies, we maximise the impact of every donation and are able to fund more surgeries.
How We Reduce Supply Costs
- Using Hospital-Supplied Materials – We rely on medical supplies provided by our partner hospitals, rather than sourcing and transporting our own. This approach eliminates logistical costs and ensures that all materials used are appropriate for the medical procedures required. Partnering directly with hospitals also allows us to access bulk purchasing and negotiated rates.
- In-Country Procurement – Whenever possible, we purchase supplies locally in Uganda. This avoids expensive international shipping costs, customs duties, and logistical challenges. It also supports local suppliers and ensures that the materials are readily available when needed.
- Efficient Use of Resources – By working closely with medical teams, we ensure that only the essential supplies are used for each procedure, reducing waste and unnecessary spending.
Why This Matters
By keeping supply costs down, we can allocate more of each donation directly to surgeries and essential medical treatments. This means that more children receive life-changing care, and families never have to worry about the financial burden of medical treatment.
