How Does Humanity Direct Fund their Operating Rooms and Surgeries?
At Humanity Direct, our mission is simple: to fund life-saving and life-changing surgeries for children who cannot afford medical care. A key part of this work involves covering the cost of both the surgeries themselves and the operating rooms where these procedures take place.
We’re proud to offer a direct, transparent model where 100% of every public donation goes directly to medical treatment, including theatre fees, anaesthetics, equipment, and other costs like operating rooms.
Funding operating rooms: how it works
When you donate through Humanity Direct, your contribution covers:
- The cost operating rooms – including surgical equipment, theatre staff, and sterile conditions
- Surgical fees – such as surgeon, anaesthetist and nursing support
- Hospital stays – when a child needs post-op monitoring or recovery time
- Essential extras – including scans, blood tests, and medication
Our partner hospital and outreach clinics in Uganda provide us with detailed treatment plans and cost breakdowns. Each child’s case is reviewed, prioritised, and posted online so donors can choose exactly where their money goes. Alternatively you can donate directly to the universal fund so your donation is spread across patients.
Why this model matters
Surgical care can be completely out of reach for children in low-income countries, not because the operations are complex, but because the operation costs are unaffordable. By removing financial barriers, we help children receive timely treatment that can change the course of their lives.
