Do We Fund Plastic Surgery?

One of the questions we often get asked is ‘Do we fund plastic surgery?’ At Humanity Direct we fund life-saving and life-changing surgery for children who would otherwise go without access to medical care.

The answer is yes, but only when it’s medically necessary. We don’t fund cosmetic procedures or surgery requested for aesthetic reasons. We focus on reconstructive plastic surgery that restores function, alleviates pain or dramatically improves a child’s quality of life.

Patient Zaituni, Do we fund plastic surgery?

What types of reconstructive plastic surgery do we fund?

We work with local medical teams to provide surgery for children in Uganda who urgently need care. This includes:

  • Cleft lip and cleft palate repair – essential for speech development, eating and quality of life
  • Burn contracture release – to restore movement and reduce pain after severe burns
  • Correction of congenital deformities – such as fused fingers or malformed limbs
  • Post trauma reconstructive surgery – following accidents or injuries that impair function

Each child we support is carefully assessed by trusted medical professionals on the ground to ensure the surgery is necessary and unavailable through any other means.

Why reconstructive surgery matters

Reconstructive plastic surgery can have a life changing impact. It helps children regain mobility, eat or speak normally, attend school without stigma and participate fully in life. For families living in poverty the cost of such surgery is far out of reach—this is where your support makes an immediate and lasting difference.

100% of your donation goes to surgery

When you fund a surgery through Humanity Direct 100% of your donation goes directly to the child’s operation. No admin costs, no overheads—just a direct impact on a child’s life.

If you’d like to help fund reconstructive surgery for a child in need, see our current patients or donate to the Universal Fund to support urgent operations.Contact
