Understanding Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)

Amblyopia is when one eye develops weaker vision because the brain favours the other eye. It is most treatable when found in early childhood.

Amblyopia

Symptoms

  • Eye drift/one eye moving

  • Poor depth perception

  • Tilting the head

  • One eye that is noticeably stronger than the other

Why Amblyopia Matters

If untreated by roughly around age seven, amblyopia can cause permanent vision loss. It is often linked to other eye conditions like strabismus or refractive errors.

Treatment Options

  • Corrective eyewear

  • Patching or blurring the stronger eye

  • Vision therapy

  • Surgery in some cases

How Humanity Direct Helps

Many children miss the critical window for treatment due to a lack of access to screening and follow-up care. Humanity Direct steps in by funding early diagnostics, treatment plans, and even patching or surgical interventions. Our glasses for classes initiative helps provide eye care for children who need corrective treatments, or long term vision support. Each donation directly changes a child’s visual and developmental future.
