Could your school give children in Uganda a pair of glasses?
Millions of children around the world struggle to see the board in their classroom, or can’t make out the words in their text book because of poor eyesight badly hindering their chances to get a good education.
At Humanity Direct, we’re working to change that. Our Glasses for Classes program delivers free eye tests and glasses to children with the poorest eyesight in areas where there is little or no medical care, helping them stay in school, engage in learning, and fulfil their potential.
We’re now reaching out to schools with an exciting opportunity to partner with our schools in Uganda to help fund more eye tests and glasses.
How your school can get involved.
We’re inviting schools to take part in a fun activity to decorate a pair of glasses as creatively as possible for a donation of £2. The donations will be allocated to a specific school in Uganda so we can share updates on the eye tests and pairs of glasses delivered that have been funded.
It’s a great opportunity to learn about the lives of children in another country and the importance of global issues such as access to eye care while learning about social responsibility and inspiring the next generation of global citizens.
Everything You Need for Your Glasses for Classes lesson.
We’ve made it easy for schools to host their own Glasses for Classes lesson with our downloadable and printable resources. These include:
- A Resource Page explaining the importance of glasses for children’s education and well-being.
- A page of glasses templates for children to cut out and decorate, so they can get involved in the fun!
- A Letter to Parents outlining the activity and what the donation will fund.
- A Certificate for each child who takes part, acknowledging their creativity and contribution to providing children with glasses
How the Partnership Works.
If you want to hold a Glasses for Classes lesson just let us know and we’ll partner you with a school in Uganda. Once you’ve held your fundraising day we’ll send you films and pictures of the eye tests performed and glasses delivered (these happen three months apart so to give us time to make up the glasses) so students can see the direct impact of their efforts.
