2-yr-old Mellisah has made a great recovery from complex bowel surgery.
Mellisah was born with an anorectal malformation,  a serious bowel condition affecting a child’s ability to have proper bowel movement.Â
Surgery was in three stages. The first part, a posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP), was reconstructive surgery the malformation was identified and repaired.
Mellisah was then fitted with a colostomy bag to give her time to heal.
Once Mellisah had made a full recovery the colostomy bag could be removed and the wound closed.
The operation requires highly specialised skills and there are very few surgeons who can do perform this operation. We are  privileged to work with paediatrician, Dr. Sekabira, the first person to perform this surgery in Uganda.  Dr Sekabira has subsequently trained other surgeons to now perform this operation
Bob Yate's epic 1000 mile challenge covered the costs of every element of Mellisah's medical care including a good supply of colostomy bags (these are expensive and hard to source in Uganda).
A huge thank you to everyone who supported Bob and donated.
