Francis is now back at school after his surgery.
Francis had a urethrocutaneous fistula, also known as a urinary or urethral fistula, a rare condition that creates an opening between the urethra and the skin or perineum. This opening allows urine to leak out of the body, bypassing the urethra.
Fistulas like this one must be treated because they will not heal on their own.
Dr Dan Namaguzi performed the operation and Francis was able to return home the same day.
Thanks to everyone who took part in the XNRG Amersham Ultra whose donations meant we could cover the bill for Francis' operation.
