Daniela

3-yr-old Daniela has had her second, and final, operation for a brain tumour.

When we first met Daniela she was initially diagnosed with hydrocephalus but on closer investigation surgeons discovered a sizeable brain tumour.

The first operation was to insert a shunt to drain fluid from the brain.  Once Daniela had recovered we could proceed with the second operation to remove the tumour.

The operation, performed by neurosurgeon Dr Ssenyonjo, was a complex operation lasting eight hours.

Dr Ssenyonjo is one of just twelve neurosurgeons working in Uganda and one of the few that specialise in paediatric neurosurgery.

As Daniela was in ICU we weren't allowed to film an update with her but Dr Ssenyonjo kindly recorded this update for us.
