Baby Shaqir

Baby Shaqir has had life saving neurosurgery for hydrocephalus.

Shaqir faced a life-threatening challenge from her earliest days after fluid began to build up on her brain.  Without timely neurosurgery, hydrocephalus can lead to severe brain damage, developmental delays, or even death. Yet for many families in low-resource settings, access to specialist neurosurgical care is incredibly limited. The cost, distance, and scarcity of trained surgeons mean that too many children never receive the treatment they urgently need.

Thanks to your support, Shaqir’s story has a different ending.

With funds raised through the XNRG March Ultra, Humanity Direct was able to arrange the critical surgery Shaqir needed. She was treated by neurosurgeon Dr Sessenyonjo, whose expertise and care made this life-saving procedure possible.

The operation was a success.

Today, Baby Shaqir is recovering well. The pressure on her brain has been relieved, giving her the chance to grow, learn, and thrive. Her family reports that she is more comfortable, more alert, and beginning to engage with the world around her.
