Shafik has had the surgery he needed for hydrocephalus

Baby Shafik has had the neurosurgery he needed for congenital hydrocephalus.

Shafik's condition where excess fluid has built up on the brain, had caused his head to swell and surgery was his only option.

Hydrocephalus  is a serious condition that can cause learning disabilities including problems with speech, vision and physical coordination.  However, by operating while Shafik is so young, Shafik is now expected to lead a fairly normal life with few limitations.

The operation to insert a shunt was performed by Dr Sssenyonjo.

Donations covered the cost of the actual surgery including transport to and from hospital, the actual surgery and post-op care including the hospital stay.
