Maria is making a great recovery after her operation

Two-year-old Maria has had the surgery she needed for a life threatening hernia.

Maria's large hernia was uncomfortable and left untreated it posed life threatening risks as if complications arise they require emergency surgery that isn't easily available in the areas where we work.

Maria’s family had tried to get her medical care but they simply couldn't afford to reach hospital and pay for an operation. Thankfully, they had heard of Humanity Direct and through our out reach clinic we were able to confirm that surgery was Maria's only option.

Our patients never wait for surgery.  As soon as it's confirmed that surgery is the only option we go ahead and arrange it.  However, we still need to cover all the costs involved.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Tula Trust (that also funded three other operations) we were able to cover every aspect of Maria's care from the actual surgery to post-operative care and transport to and from hospital.

Paediatrician Dr Sekabira performed the hernia repair and Maria has made a great recovery, regaining her appetite and running around playing once again.
