Irene

10-year-old Irene was brought to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and was quickly diagnosed with appendicitis—a condition that requires urgent surgical intervention to prevent life-threatening complications.
Dr. John Ssekabira, Senior Consultant Paediatrician,  performed Irene’s appendectomy. Thanks to his skill and prompt care, Irene has made an excellent recovery.

Appendicitis is particularly dangerous for children in resource-limited settings like Uganda, where delays in diagnosis and treatment are common due to limited access to healthcare, diagnostic tools, and surgeons. These delays increase the risk of appendix rupture, which can lead to serious infections, longer hospital stays, and even death.

Your generous donations covered Irene’s surgery, transport, medical supplies, and post-operative care ensuring she received the critical treatment she needed. By supporting cases like Irene’s, we can continue to provide urgent surgical care for children in need and save more lives.

On behalf of Irene, her family and the HD team, thank you. 🙏
