At just two years old, Ariera suffered a devastating injury when she burned her fingers in a cooking fire.
Without access to the medical treatment she needed, her burns healed with severe scarring, causing her fingers to fuse together. This made it difficult for Ariera to use her hand normally.
Ariera needed specialist surgery to release the contractures and restore movement to her fingers. Thanks to support from Humanity Direct, Dr Edmond Odell performed a contracture release and skin graft to repair the damage and help restore the function of her hand.
Thankfully, Ariera has made a good recovery following her surgery. Her fingers have been separated, giving her much greater use of her hand.
As Ariera grows up, she will be able to do things many children take for granted including holding a pen, writing and going to school.
For a little girl who has already been through so much, this surgery has given Ariera the chance to grow up with greater independence and hope for the future.
