Three-month-old Babirye bas had life saving surgery.
Baby Babirye was brought to us after her mother noticed a tender bulge between her chest and belly button. The swelling became more pronounced whenever she cried or strained causing her real discomfort and leading to bouts of intense crying and a reluctance to feed.

Babirye was diagnosed with an epigastric hernia, a condition where abdominal tissue pushes through a weakened area of muscle in the upper abdomen. These hernias rarely resolve on their own and, if left untreated, can become trapped or obstructed - Â a serious and painful complication that needs emergency surgery.

Babirye has now successfully undergone hernia repair surgery, performed by Dr John Sekabira, a highly respected paediatric surgeon who has helped countless children across Uganda. During the procedure, the herniated tissue was carefully returned to its proper place and the abdominal wall repaired and strengthened to prevent recurrence.
Babirye is now recovering well following surgery and is being closely monitored as she continues to heal.
Donations towards Babirye’s care have covered every aspect of her treatment — including anaesthesia, surgical supplies, medication, post-operative care, and follow-up appointments.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the XNRG Amersham Ultra — your efforts made Babirye’s operation possible.
