We’re pleased to share a post-op update on Derrick, and to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible by taking part in the XNRG Ultra earlier this month.
Derrick, 13, had been living with a painful swelling in his right jaw for months. Eating and speaking had become increasingly difficult, and the discomfort was constant. A scan organised by HD revealed the cause — an osteoma (a benign bone tumour) along with a dermoid cyst in his submandibular gland, located just beneath the jaw.
The impact on Derrick went far beyond the physical. At school, he had become withdrawn, self-conscious about his appearance, and anxious about the pain that flared whenever he tried to talk or eat. His family knew he needed help, but specialist surgery in Uganda was far beyond what they could afford.

Because of the severity of his pain, we stepped in to fund Derrick’s surgery. The procedure was carried out by maxillofacial surgeon Dr Macho, who has helped many children with complex jaw conditions. During the operation, both the osteoma and dermoid cyst were successfully removed — relieving Derrick’s pain and preventing further damage to his jaw and surrounding tissues.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who ran, donated, and supported the XNRG Ultra, your efforts made this life-changing surgery possible.
Donations covered every part of his care including diagnostic scans, anaesthesia, surgical supplies, medication, and post-operative follow-up appointments.
Thank you for being part of this.
