Six-month-old Sowda is one of five patients whose treatment was covered by Rob’s fundraising efforts. Sowda was born with hydrocephalus, a life threatening condition where fluid builds up on the brain. Her parents tried hard to save up the money to pay for the operation but her condition deteriorated quicker than they could save and they only had enough to reach the Edna Adan hospital in Somaliland.
We told the hospital to go ahead with the operation while we did our best to find someone to cover the costs. The hospital has a high success rate for these operations and the doctors we work with told us operating as soon straight away, meant Sowda had a greater chance of making a full recovery. Thanks to Rob for covering the costs of Sowda’s treatment. Not only is Sowda making a strong recovery but her parents have avoided getting into debt and further poverty.
