Sharon recently received the operation she needed to treat her hydrocephalus, a painful and debilitating condition that made Sharon’s head grow abnormally large. Sharon’s mother knew something wasn’t right but she couldn’t afford to reach the hospital in Kampala. Our out-reach healthcare volunteers found them and arranged for Sharon to get the life-saving neurosurgery she needed. Sharon’s head still looks quite large but the swelling will reduce in time and Sharon should soon be able to sit up and take her first steps unaided.
This is Dickson, our healthcare volunteer with Sharon and her mum shortly after surgery:
Hydrocephalus surgery is typical of the low-cost, high-impact surgery we perform. Thank’s to Anna for fundraising to cover the costs of the operation.
