Six-month-old Sacdiya was born with hydrocephalus, commonly known as "water on the brain". She needed immediate surgery to drain excess fluid and relieve the swelling in her head. If left untreated hydrocephalus can lead to brain damage, a loss in mental and physical abilities, and even death.
The procedure is normally performed only by visiting surgeons since there are no specialists in Somaliland. However, the visiting surgeons have trained Dr. Shukri who can now take on emergency cases by herself. This enabled Sacdiya to have surgery immediately. However, her family have no means to pay the hospital bill. Your donation will cover the cost of the surgery including all the medical supplies as well as her post-operative care.
