4-year-old Robert is excited about starting school soon. He can’t wait to be a ’big boy’ and play with all the other children. Robert has a large supra-hernia (that means it’s just above the naval) and the surgeon’s that have assessed him have recommended that they operate soon.
Hernia’s are common among children in developing countries and unfortunately so are the complications that can arise if they’re not treated.
If the hernia becomes strangulated it can quickly turn into an emergency situation but many children live to far away to get the medical care they need in time. Hernia operations are ranked among the most cost-effective health interventions in developing countries. We hope we can cover the cost of this operation as not only does it make Robert better but it will help his mum avoid getting into debt and poverty.
