14-year-old Pili came to the hospital with painful swelling in both feet as well as infected tissue and necrosis. Initially she was treated with antibiotics and had her wounds regularly dressed but she did not improve. Amputation below the knee was the only way to save her life. Her family is poor and had no way of affording the operation, hospital stay, wheelchair and prosthetics. Nick & Katrina’s swim raised enough money to cover everything and Pili is now walking confidently on her prosthetics.
