Peter enjoys school and is a keen football player. He has had a hernia from birth. His mother sought treatment before when he was young but couldn’t afford the operation. Our healthcare volunteers heard about Peter when they were visiting their village and explained that Humanity Direct would be able to cover the costs including the transport to get him to hospital and back as well as the actual surgery.
Hernia operations are ranked among the most cost-effective health interventions in developing countries and are typical of the low-cost, high-impact surgery we fund. We hope we can cover the cost of this operation as not only will it make Peter better but it will help his mum avoid getting into debt and poverty.
