This is 11-month-old Nasifu who is seeking corrective surgery for a contracture in his right index finger. A contracture is a condition of shortening and hardening of muscles or tendons which, without surgery often leads to deformity and rigidity of the joints. As Nasifu is right handed this is becoming more and more of a problem as he becomes older and tries to do more for himself. Nassau’s mother is raising him on her own and simply cannot afford the surgery that he needs, without going into debt and pushing the family further into poverty. All the money raised for Nasifu’s surgery will cover his entire treatment, including his stay in hospital for him and his mother as well transport to and from the hospital.
