13-year-old Khadan from Somaliland badly burnt her hand in a cooking fire. Her family couldn’t afford the medical care she needed at the time so they went to a traditional healer. Unfortunately the treatment she received didn’t help and the hand didn’t heal properly leaving it deformed and Khadan unable to use it.
Her parents spent what little money they had on reaching the Edna Adan Foundation Hospital in Hargeisa and had no money left to pay for the actual surgery. Thanks to an anonymous donor who covered the costs khadan got the operation she needed without her family having to get into debt and poverty.
Khadan has made an excellent recovery and now has the use of her hand back. On behalf of Khadan, her family and our surgeons at the Edna Adan Hospital in Somaliland we want to say a big ’thank you’ to the donor who kindly covered the costs.
