Young Ivan has hydrocele, a common congenital defect among boys where a sac of fluid collects around the scrotum leading to swelling.
The swelling is causing Ivan discomfort especially when he walks and runs around. As well as becoming painful hydrocele can become infected or cause problems with blood flow and as a result surgery is often recommended.
Hydrocele surgery is ranked as one of the most cost effective health interventions in low income countries and is typical of the high-impact, low-cost operations we fund. The cost of surgery can impoverish families who don’t have the means to pay for such treatment and this is the case with Ivan’s family. We’re hoping to cover the costs with every penny raised being spent on the surgery, medical supplies, post-operative care and transport to and from hospital.
