10-year-old Grace has an umbilical hernia - part of the bowel or fatty tissue poking through an area near the belly button. Grace likes walking to school with her friends but at the moment she finds it difficult as the umbilical hernia is quite large, protruding though her clothes and causing her discomfort. Surgery is her only option to get rid of the hernia. Without treatment life threatening complications can arise such as obstruction or strangulation - conditions that would need emergency surgery. If complications were to set in it would be unlikely that Grace would be able to get medical help in time as her family live in a remote area. Grace’s family are desperate for their daughter to have the surgery she needs but would never be able to afford the cost. Donations will cover the actual surgery, medical supplies, hospital stay and transport to and from the hospital.
