Eighteen-month-old Ethan is suffering from an umbilical hernia, which doctors are keen to correct as soon as possible. The hernia gives Ethan a great deal of discomfort. In Uganda hernias can be life threatening as not everyone can reach the medical care they need in time when complications such as a strangulated hernia develop. His mother is unable to afford the surgery herself and is desperate for Ethan to have the treatment before any such complications can possibly set in. This sort of surgery is typical of the highly effective, yet low-cost operations we fund. Every penny raised for Ethan will go towards the full cost of his treatment which includes everything from the actual operation, to his stay in hospital along with transport for him and his mother to and from the hospital.
