6-year-old Elvis has a hernia that is causing him discomfort and he needs an operation to remove it. Elvis is from a poor rural village where medical care is scarce. Humanity Direct out-reach workers visited Elvis and agreed to bring him to the Platinum Medical Centre to be assessed by one of our surgeons who confirmed that the hernia needs to be surgically removed. Complications as a result of a hernia can be fatal as patients have little chance of reaching emergency medical care in time. Hernia operations are typical of the low-cost, high impact operations we fund. Elvis’s parents are farmers and don’t earn enough to fund the operation. Donations will cover all aspects of the surgery not only making Elvis better but preventing his family from getting into debt and further poverty.
