18 month-old Edmond needs an operation for hypospadias - a birth defect of the urethra in boys where the urinary opening is not at the usual location. Doctors like to operate while the patient is young as the operation is easier to perform and recover from. It also makes toilet training a lot easier and prevents further complications as he grows up. It can be an embarrassing condition and has been linked to an increased risk of testicular cancer, fertility problems and urinary tract infections. The operation is straightforward and typical of the low-cost, high-impact surgery we fund. All donations will cover every aspect of Edmonds surgery including his post-operative care.
