3-yr-old Alvin has an inguinal hernia - a painful swelling caused by fatty tissue or part of the bowel, poking through into the groin at the top of the inner thigh. As a lively little boy the hernia is causing Alvin a lot of discomfort whenever he walks or runs. Hernia’s can be fatal if left untreated as complications can set in and in remote villages with little access to emergency medical care Alvin would be unlikely to reach treatment in time if this was to happen.
Hernias are typical of the low-cost, high-impact surgery we fund and are ranked among the top healthcare interventions in developing countries. Donations will cover the actual surgery, surgical supplies, post-operative care and transport to and from hospital.
