10-month-old Abdul has a large umbilical hernia. Abdul is just learning how to crawl and the hernia is causing him discomfort and as it protrudes he is constantly knocking it. Umbilical hernias are common in Uganda and if left untreated the complications that can arise can be life threatening. Abdul’s mum is desperate for her son to get the treatment he needs but she simply cannot afford such an expense. Hernia surgery is ranked as one of the most cost effective healthcare interventions in developing countries and is a typical example of the low-cost, high-impact surgery we fund. Donations will cover every aspect of his surgery from the surgery itself to the post-operative care.
