15-month-old Abas is a typical toddler who loves walking and running around. Abas was born with an umbilical hernia and his mother is very worried as she believes his older siblings all died as a result of complications from the same condition. Hernias are common and can become incarcerated or strangulated resulting in emergency surgery. Abas and his family live in a remote village and as they’ve already discovered there is little chance, if complications were to set in, that they would reach medical care in time. Aba’s parents work hard but don’t earn enough to pay for an operation. By covering the costs of surgery not only will Abas get better but we’ll also prevent his parents from getting into debt and further poverty.
