Maria has had the maxillofacial surgery she needed

18-years-old Maria was living with a large swelling in her upper jaw, caused by an ossifying fibroma—a benign tumour that develops within the bone and can cause significant swelling and distortion as it grows.

The swelling in Maria’s maxilla was affecting her appearance and could continue to cause problems if left untreated. She needed specialist maxillofacial surgery to remove the affected bone and prevent the condition from progressing.

Thanks to donations Maria was able to receive the specialist treatment she desperately needed. Dr Adrian Kamulegeya performed the surgery to remove the tumour and restore the structure of her upper jaw.

The operation was successful, giving Maria the chance to move forward without the burden of the swelling and its potential complications.

Maria’s surgery was made possible thanks to a generous donation from a Trust, which funded 16 operations in total, including Maria’s. This incredible support has enabled Maria and 15 other patients to access life-changing specialist surgery that would otherwise have been beyond their reach.
