2-yr-old Mercy has had the life saving surgery she needs thanks to the skill of Dr Sekabira.
Mercy was born with imperforate anus (ARM) — a serious congenital condition that meant she had no anal opening, leaving her at constant risk of dangerous infections, pain, and long-term complications affecting her growth and development.
Without treatment, Mercy’s condition would have continued to put her life at risk. Thanks to your support, she was able to undergo the complex, multi-stage surgery she urgently needed.
Her treatment was carried out by paediatric surgeon Dr John Sekabira and involved three critical stages. First, a temporary stoma was created to safely divert waste and protect her from life-threatening infections. Next, a new anal opening was carefully formed and reconstructed to allow normal function.
Finally, after a period of healing, the stoma was successfully closed — completing her surgical journey. We’re delighted to share that Mercy’s procedures were a success.
She is now recovering well and has the chance to grow up free from the constant pain and risk of infection she once faced. This life-changing outcome has been made possible through your generosity.
Donations from the XNRG Amersham Ultra covered every stage of Mercy’s care — including multiple surgeries, hospital stays, colostomy supplies, post-operative care, and even transport to ensure she could attend every appointment safely.
For Mercy and her family, this changes everything. She now has the opportunity to enjoy a healthy childhood - to play, grow, and live like other children her age.
Thank you for making this possible.
