Can Your School Help a Class of Children See Clearly? To celebrate World Sight Day on October 9th, we’re asking schools to host a Glasses for Classes Day to give children in Uganda with the poorest eyesight a pair of glasses.
What is Glasses for Classes?
Our Glasses for Classes program provides eye tests and glasses for children who don’t have access to eye care. So far, we’ve funded over 30,000 eye tests and 4,300 pairs of glasses.
The schools we visit don’t have electricity, so classrooms can be dark, with worn blackboards, crowded classes and books that need to be shared, everything that puts a strain on eyesight.
Yet the children we meet have the same ambitions as children all over the world. They want to be doctors, engineers, teachers, journalists and presidents. But without glasses, those who can’t see properly will find it hard to achieve their aims.
For the children who can’t see properly to read a book or write, they won’t pass their tests and can easily end up leaving school early.

Celebrate World Eye Sight Day
It’s time to get creative as we celebrate World Eye Sight Day on October 9th to help fundraise for our next round of eye test clinics and glasses.

We’re asking schools to join in by inviting students to decorate a pair of glasses as creatively as they can. Working with Little Chalfont School, we’ve come up with some fantastic resources to help host a fun, educational and engaging lesson, including;
- Printable A4 glasses templates for children to cut out and decorate.
- A small presentation to explain the importance of Glasses for Classes.
- A letter to parents explaining the activity and donation request.
- A certificate to celebrate every child who takes part.

How Can Your School Get Involved?
Watch this brilliant film made by Year 6 students from Little Chalfont Primary School, the first school to support Glasses for Classes, to see how much fun it is to take part!
It’s easy to join in and make a real difference
- Ask each child to decorate a paper pair of glasses as creatively as they can.
- Donate a small sum to participate (we ask for £2 if possible)
- Use the printable resources available on our Glasses for Classes resource page.

It’s a great opportunity to get everyone to take part…

Why Participate?
Not only will your school be supporting a life-changing cause, but students will also:
- Learn about global vision problems and how they can help make a difference
- Get creative and express themselves through art.
- Understand the importance of helping others.

Where possible, we always try to send pictures and films from the children who have received their glasses to the school that fundraised for them so they can see the impact that their fundraising has had.
